The 42 West Highland white terriers rescued from a Marysville trailer are moving toward adoption. Everett Animal Shelter is scheduling spay and neuter surgeries and contacting interested adopters, KIRO 7 reported September 25.

The shelter said teams from Groombar and A Pet Spa spent seven hours grooming the dogs on September 24, removing 14 pounds of matted fur. One dog had developed parvovirus, requiring the group to undergo quarantine.

An October court date

Police removed the Westies and two other dogs on August 31. KIRO identifies the accused man as Lance Blodgett, 68, and reports that he is scheduled for arraignment on October 7.

The report says prosecutors received 43 second degree animal cruelty counts and one breeding related count. Buddylio has not reviewed the charging document to establish the exact counts before the court. The allegations have not been proven.

Before arranging a visit

Adoption preparation does not establish that every Westie is ready to leave. Check each dog’s listing and availability with the shelter.

Everett’s official adoption page currently warns that its dog adoption pod is closed for viewing during renovations. Dogs may be in foster care or elsewhere in the shelter. Foster visits require an appointment; staff can help locate a dog listed online.
