How this section is reported

Everything here covers dog, shelter, rescue and animal welfare news that matters to the people who care for these animals. Each article names the reporting it rests on. We read the sources listed on the page, check the central people and organizations involved, and then add plain English context. If a story has nothing to add beyond what you can already read elsewhere, we do not publish it.

What the article details mean

Published and updated dates describe the article itself rather than the events inside it. Where a story involves an animal looking for a home, the page carries a reminder to confirm current status directly with the shelter, because adoption details move faster than any article can.

How pages are reviewed

Tools may assist with research, drafting and editing, but they do not decide what gets published. No article on this site is written by a veterinarian, and we never present one as though it were.

When material facts change, we update the existing report instead of creating a competing page about the same event. The revised page keeps its original publication date, receives a new updated date and explains the later development in context. We also preserve careful attribution when police, shelters, courts or rescue groups disagree. A charge is not a conviction, an allegation is not a finding and an early animal count may change after veterinary intake. If a correction changes the central meaning of a report, the correction belongs on the article itself rather than being hidden in a separate post.

What makes a story worth publishing

Animal news travels fast and loses accuracy on the way. A rescue count grows with every retelling, a shelter gets renamed, and a photograph from one country ends up illustrating an event in another. Before a story runs here it has to clear a few plain checks. We need to find the original reporting rather than a summary of a summary. The organizations and people named in it have to be real and findable. The numbers have to appear in the source, not just in the headline. And there has to be something we can genuinely add for a reader who cares about animals, whether that is context on how a program actually works, what a shelter transfer involves, or what a piece of research does and does not show.

Some of what we leave out matters as much as what we run. We do not publish stories built on a single unverifiable social post, and we do not turn someone else’s grief into a headline. Where an article touches on health, it stays descriptive. These pages organize and explain what has been reported. Your veterinarian is the person who interprets anything about your own animal.

Looking for something else

If you want practical guidance rather than news, the Dog Care section is written for that, and the free dog tools help you keep your own notes in one place.
