Infant Dies Near Vidor; Dog Quarantined During Investigation

A one month old girl died at a home near Vidor, Texas, on September 19, and a dog inside the residence was quarantined while investigators examined the circumstances.

Orange County Sheriff Bobby Smith told KFDM that the infant’s injuries were consistent with wounds caused by a dog. He described the animal as a pit bull and Akita mix. Those statements are the sheriff’s preliminary account, not a published autopsy finding.

KOGT reported that deputies were called at 2:53 a.m. after someone reported the infant was not breathing. Deputies and emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but she died at the scene.
