Gino Ferrari Charged After Dog Attacks K9 Diesel

Gino Ferrari, 63, faces charges after his dog attacked police dog Diesel during a warrant operation in July, the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office said. Its notice lists September 11 as the arrest date; the announcement was posted September 15.

Diesel was treated for neck injuries

Prosecutors say Ferrari agreed to a search of an Adams Avenue residence and went inside to secure his dog. Police allege the dog then crossed a fence and bit Diesel’s neck. Officers freed Diesel, who received veterinary treatment for puncture wounds and scratches.

The notice lists charges involving a police animal, reckless endangerment and injury to a domestic animal. Although one charge heading includes the word “kill,” the account describes Diesel being injured and treated. It does not report his death.
