Scout, Selma Blair’s service dog, was with her defense attorney after the actress’s arrest following an October 11 flight from Los Angeles to New York, PEOPLE reported on October 12, citing a Queens Criminal Court clerk.
PEOPLE also cited a source who said the English Labrador had been aboard the Delta flight. TMZ separately reported that Blair’s lawyer collected Scout at JFK and that he was safe.
The report about Scout came before Blair’s release
The latest dog specific account reviewed for this article is PEOPLE’s report, published at 7:51 p.m. Eastern on October 12. Subsequent Associated Press reporting, carried by ABC News, says Blair left court after posting $20,000 bail. That later report does not establish whether Scout had rejoined her.
Blair appeared in Queens court on two counts of second degree assault involving an officer and a nurse, according to the AP report. Her representative attributed the alleged conduct to a medical emergency. The charges are allegations, not a conviction.
How Scout helps Blair
In a May 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Blair said she had welcomed Scout the previous December after her neurologist suggested a service dog. She described him helping her get up and regain balance when spasms or difficulty moving interrupted her mobility.
That account describes trained physical assistance. Blair also said his presence reassured her son when he was away from home. The interview predates the flight incident by more than four years and does not explain what happened aboard the aircraft.
Scout later accompanied Blair to the White House’s October 2, 2023, disability rights celebration. The archival photograph above shows that visit, not the flight or the arrest. For now, the available reporting identifies who took care of Scout after landing but leaves his arrangements following Blair’s release unconfirmed.
