A 27 year old woman died after a suspected dog attack while cycling home in Hong Kong’s Yuen Long district around midnight between September 19 and 20, according to police accounts reported by RTHK and The Standard.
She was found unconscious near Pok Wai South Road and taken to Pok Oi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said she had been travelling home from Yuen Long MTR station.
Police findings remain preliminary
At a Sunday briefing, police said their initial examination found injuries consistent with animal bites and scratches. RTHK quoted acting assistant district commander Cheung Chun tong as saying the exact cause of death remained subject to an autopsy.
The reports describe dogs chasing the woman shortly before she was found. The Standard reported that footage placed the chase near the discovery location. This does not establish every part of the fatal encounter.
Dogs had not been located
RTHK reported that police had not found the dogs at the time of the briefing. The case was passed to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for follow up. Neither report established the animals’ ownership or a confirmed breed.
