Dee Auer of Clarkston, Washington, faces 20 animal cruelty counts following an Asotin County Sheriff’s Office investigation, according to Big Country News Connection. The outlet reports that Auer was arrested September 24 and is scheduled for arraignment September 30. The allegations have not been proven in court.
How the 18 animals were counted
Seven dogs were removed earlier this year. On September 24, authorities removed another five dogs and six horses from the Clarkston Heights property, the report says. That makes 12 dogs and six horses across both removals, rather than 18 animals taken on a single day.
What rescuers reported
Big Country attributes the care findings to Idaho Animal Rescue Network volunteers. Dogs reportedly had overgrown nails, irritated eyes and urine burns. One horse reportedly had hoof problems affecting its movement. The five dogs and six horses removed September 24 were receiving veterinary evaluation and care.
The rescue’s own website describes its work with law enforcement on cruelty investigations and its foster based care. It does not establish an adoption date for these animals. Removal and veterinary care do not, by themselves, mean the animals are available for adoption.
